A driver has been arrested after police discovered a stolen Mercedes in Maidenhead yesterday (June 21).

Thames Valley Police roads policing unit spotted the silver car driving in Maidenhead when their vehichle registration system was activated.

The ANPR system recognised the car as a 'stolen vehicle'.

As such, police officers stopped the driver asking him to provide a drug sample.

The driver refused and checks in the car found he had cannabis inside.

Thames Valley Police also discovered the driver was disqualified from driving, had no insurance and was driving a stolen car.

They said: "Anpr activation for a stolen vehicle. Vehicle sighted by #XRT06 and stopped. Driver refused to provide a specimen for a drug wipe. Checks revealed he is disqualified from driving, has no insurance, driving a stolen motor and had cannabis in the car. Arrested & charged."
