A bungling fly-tipper who thought he could get away with dumping a washing machine in a lane at night was caught on camera.

Nicolae Rotaru, 43, of Granville Avenue, Slough, was caught by surveillance cameras arriving in Wexham Park Lane, Wexham, at night and dumping a washing machine.

The washing machine was found on March 23 last year.

But because the area has been so heavily blighted by fly-tipping, there were already CCTV cameras set up - and Rotaru's vehicle was seen on camera before he was filmed leaving the washing machine.

The vehicle was traced back to his Slough address and he was questioned at Slough Police Station - where he reluctantly admitted he fly-tipped the waste.

He pleaded guilty to fly-tiping at High Wycombe Magistrates' Court on June 22 - and was fined £403, and ordered to pay clean up and investigation costs of £600.

A victim surcharge of £41 was also levied – making a total to pay of £1,044.

Cllr Gareth Williams, the cabinet member for climate change and environment at Buckinghamshire Council, said: “People often think that carrying out a crime at night gives them more chance of not being caught.

"When it comes to fly-tipping in Buckinghamshire however, that is not true.

"Whatever time of day or night you choose to commit this selfish and thoughtless crime, we will be watching - and we will prosecute.

“We’ve said it many times before, and we’ll say it again: We will not tolerate needless fly-tipping in Buckinghamshire.

"We have excellent recycling facilities across the county, there is absolutely no excuse for dumping waste illegally.”
