A DRAG queen, live music and dancers were all part of Burnham’s first ever pride event.

Organised by the Burnham Royal British Legion Club, Burnham Pride took place on Saturday, July 23 to celebrate the LGBTQIA+ community.

To mark the occasion, a 90’s revival live band, drag queen Beardre Barlow and dancers from Slough-based Creative Academy all entertained the locals from 4pm until midnight.

Families also enjoyed face painting, food and drink and charity stalls throughout the day.

Ellis Brickley, Legion Club secretary and event organiser, said the event was a “fantastic community day”.

She said: “We as a club with LGBTQ+ members recognised that there is nothing between London and Reading that celebrates pride, so we decided to run our own event.

“We look forward to making it an annual event.”

Councillor Carol Linton, deputy chair of Burnham Parish Council, said her and her husband had a lovely time.

“It was friendly and fun, with lots of laughs and cheap drinks,” she said.

“The residents passing by must have been surprised by the dancers who performed practically on the pavement.”

George Kirkham, principal director of the Creative Academy, said: “The Creative Academy was so pleased to be involved with Burnham Royal British Legion.

“It was a brilliant day celebrating the diversity and richness of the local community.

“Ellis and her team excelled and began a marvellous tradition.

“The students and staff are looking forward to working with British Legion again.”
