PHOTOS show the progress of demolition of the much-loved former Sainsbury's store in Slough.

The supermarket, on Farnham Road, closed its doors to customers on Saturday, April 30.

And Slough Trading Estate owners SEGRO announced Big Yellow self-storage is set to replace the store.

The supermarket has now been boarded up and outside signage has started to be removed.

But as workers on the site have been working on the removal of the banners, the former Safeway ghost lettering has been exposed.

Graham Soult took some pictures of the site on July 24 to show the current state on the unit.

Slough Observer readers expressed their frustrations over the closure of the Sainsbury's store earlier this year.

And some people think Big Yellow will be an "eyesore" along Farnham Road.

Readers hoped shops such as Morrisons, Home Bargains or Tesco may have replaced the former suppermarket.

But they weren't too pleased when SEGRO revealed Big Yellow will be moving into the site.

A spokesperson for SEGRO said: “We have been in discussions with Aldi, Pets at Home and Big Yellow, and we are delighted that all three businesses have committed to opening new stores on Farnham Road, Slough Trading Estate.

“This investment will bring two vacant sites back into use with new, modern amenities for the local community.”
