Bosses at a car dealership have denied selling a ‘dangerous’ and ‘unroadworthy’ car to a customer.

Sor Motors Ltd, based on Horton Road, Datchet, Slough, has been charged with multiple trading standards charges following the sale of a Mercedes ML350 car in Dudley in October 2021.

According to a court file, the black 2004 motor was ‘dangerous’ and unroadworthy’ as it had a gearbox issue.

An advert posted on Autotrader also stated the car had new tyres, when in fact it allegedly did not.

The owners are also accused of describing the car as being in ‘mint condition’ in the advert - something prosecutors say was a ‘misleading claim.’

It was advertised as having electric windows and ‘in-car entertainment’, yet neither the windows nor the vehicle’s radio were allegedly in working order.

Altogether, the firm is accused of:

  • Permitting the use of a vehicle with equipment likely to cause danger of injury
  • Fraud by false representation
  • Three counts of misleading customers by distributing false information
  • Two counts of omitting information in an advertisement
  • Recklessly engaging in a commercial practice

Representatives for Sor Motors pleaded not guilty to all eight counts at Dudley Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, August 3.

The case has been sent for trial at Wolverhampton Crown Court on August 31, 2022.
