PATIENTS and staff at Wexham Park Hospital have been enjoying its newly revamped outdoor space.

Volunteers from Virgin Media 02 created a colourful and relaxing community garden for patients, staff and visitors to enjoy.

After hearing the garden needed a makeover, Slough local Curtis Jewitt and Sereina Read got together a group of twenty colleagues to help spruce up the space.

They collectively fundraised nearly £500 to buy plants, tools and paints for the project.

After reaching their fundraising goal, the group got stuck in and spent 160 hours working on painting walls, renovating garden furniture, planting flowerbeds, and installing a cover to create a shaded all weather outdoor area.

Volunteer Arron Wharton designed and painted a tranquil beach mural to help bring colour to the space.

The volunteers were able to take part thanks to Virgin Media O2’s ‘Take Five’ initiative.

It offers all staff five paid volunteering days a year to support projects in which they can give back to the local community.

Nicola Green, chief corporate affairs and sustainability officer at Virgin Media O2, said: “We launched ‘Take Five’ to make it easier than ever for all of our people to support their local communities and volunteer for causes that matter to them.

“Each month, our people volunteer in locations right across the UK and it’s wonderful to see how their hard work and dedication is making a difference to the communities we serve – including at Wexham Park Hospital.”

Emma Carr, arts and creative health manager at Frimley Health Charity, said: “I would just like to say a massive thanks to the team. The last couple of years has put so much pressure on staff.

“We were delighted when we could welcome back volunteers earlier this year. Serina and Curtis from VMO2 approached to see if they could help renovate a garden for one of their ‘Take Five’ corporate days.”

Ms Carr said it has made a “huge difference” to many people at the hospital and will continue to do so.

She added: “The Frimley Health Charity endeavours to work with our local community and this is such an inspiration for others to support the hospital.”
