More than 500 people attended the event, where people dressed in costumes and enjoyed live music playing traditional songs and the National Anthem.

The association hosted a flag ceremony and prayers at the centre to remember the sacrifice made for Free Pakistan.

Cllr Shaida Akbar said: “It was a really hot day, but it was amazing to see so many people there celebrating.

“It took hours to put it all together, but everyone enjoyed the music and beautiful and it was a fun day.”

And Cllr Akbar also offered free ice lollies to children and added it was a great way for people to “give to the community”.
