THE NIGHT-TIME roadworks on a Buckinghamshire A-road are set to last until next year.

The Iver residents were told to expect utility works by engineering firm Blu-3 to take over Church Road A412 for the next 30 weeks, carried out at night-time while jackhammers and diggers excavate their way through.

Labelled disruptive on social media by residents, majority of the works will be carried out between 8pm and 6am using a two-way traffic light system.

David King, Bucks Council’s Deputy Cabinet Member for Transport said: “We have been assured that the noisiest elements of the works which include the breaking up of the road surface, will finish by 11pm each night and the temporary traffic lights will be removed at 6am each morning to allow normal traffic flow throughout the day.

“Unfortunately there is no easy way to complete this work without some disruption. We sympathise with residents who are disturbed by the noise. Other options including diversions were considered but were not suitable.

“The only option available is to use a two-way traffic light system but this is a busy and well used road and to carry out these works during the daytime would result in serious traffic problems across a wide area.

The Council was monitoring the works “closely” to check the contractor was fully following the terms and conditions “in order to minimise disruption and inconvenience to local residents,” Mr King assured.

He added: “We understand the concerns of local residents regarding the noise and disruption resulting from these works which are being carried out by a utilities provider to lay new power cables. Blu-3 halted them briefly over the bank holiday weekend, but they will start again this week.”

Access to properties would be maintained “as best possible throughout the works”, while “we will endeavour to keep disruption to the absolute minimum, whilst passing your property as quickly as possible,” Blu-3 told residents in a letter dated August 15.
