'CHEERY posties' and cafe's offering '50p cuppas' have helped one neighbourhood win the title of being one of the UK's best.

Clewer and Dedworth have been awarded and funding boost and the title of ‘Neighbourhood of the Year’ by Nextdoor, an online network connecting local residents across a range of topics.

Community support and get togethers are just some of the areas proving a boost for the two areas close to Windsor, and proved a winning hit with the judges.

Councillor Amy Tisi nominated the area for it’s “strong sense of community” and “caring people”.

She added: "From Woody’s Café keeping their cuppa’s at 50p, our cheery posties who keep an eye on the elderly through to the local charities who provide food and support for people struggling financially, for the whole community to be recognised in this way is truly amazing."

The result comes after 5,000 neighbourhoods, groups, businesses, and individuals entered the ‘Good Neighbourhood Awards’, which aim to celebrate community champions across the UK.

Recently, Clewer and Dedworth Community organised a two-day music festival, ‘Rock the Rec’, aimed at raising money for the community. The event boasted 50 craft and artisan stalls alongside performers.

A local said the event was a first for the area and 'was a great way to be able to get together locally with the neighbours'.

Community events have helped fundraise money for the town’s first ever Christmas lights, which will be switched on at the annual Christmas Fair on November 27.

Nextdoor head of community Roisin O’Neill said: “From individual acts of kindness to community groups and local businesses positively affecting the lives of others, we’re so incredibly proud to celebrate so many of their inspiring stories including our Neighbourhood of the Year, Clewer and Dedworth.’’

The Berkshire neighbourhood will receive the winning prize of £1,000 to go towards funding a local community project.
