AN INQUIRY into a Datchet water park’s alleged breach of planning permissions has been called off.

Liquid Leisure has withdrawn its appeal against an enforcement notice issued by the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead (RBWM). It was due to be heard at Maidenhead Town Hall on November 8.

In December 2020, the water park in Horton Road was told to take down its inflatable water course, caravan and camping site, party venue, and child’s play centre that’s within the greenbelt, floodplain, and a local wildlife site, as it did not have planning permission. It only had permission to host water-skiing and windsurfing.

The company feared up to 300 jobs are at risk, wages of over £2.5m could be lost, and local suppliers could lose up to £500,000 of orders per year if it lost the case.

Liquid Leisure was asked the reason for withdrawing their appeal but did not respond.

The site currently remains closed after RBWM served a prohibition notice in August, banning the water park from reopening until it has made suitable and sufficient risk assessments to prevent or reduce the risk of drowning.

This comes after an 11-year-old girl tragically passed away on Saturday, August 6, at Liquid Leisure. The council said it was conducting a health safety investigation into the tragic incident to determine any potential breaches.

An RBWM spokesperson said the health and safety investigation is still ongoing and the prohibition notice remains in place.
