SLOUGH MP’s calls for a general election have heightened as Rishi Sunak takes over as Prime Minister.

The former Chancellor of the Exchequer will soon take up the top role just a week after Liz Truss resigned from her post following financial turmoil from the mini-budget.

Mr Sunak, who lost out to Ms Truss in the Conservative leadership race about two months ago, said it was the “honour of his life” to become the UK’s first Asian Prime Minister, but warned the country still faces a “profound economic challenge”.

Reacting to the new Prime Minister, Slough’s MP Tanmanjeet Singh Dhesi said: “Another month, another Prime Minister – the chaos of Tory in-fighting continues. Day by day, the legitimacy of this government and our country’s reputation diminishes.

“Conservatives should respect the UK’s democratic traditions, as well as the interests of the ordinary hardworking British public who are sadly paying the price for Tory mistakes, and call a general election now.”
