Here are the five Slough and Windsor stories you may have missed last week.

1. Windsor and Maidenhead schools amongst 'best' in country

Schools in Windsor and Maidenhead have been named amongst the 'best' in the country by a new study.

Childcare and education experts Little Ones London examined the percentage of schools rated outstanding by Ofsted in over 150 parts of England.

The results concluded the best and worst places to get an 'outstanding' education.

2. Slough Council to sell off 1,000 home former Akzo Nobel site

Slough Observer:

A DEBT-RIDDEN council did not have a ‘clear idea’ how it will pay off a £250m project it took on that would have seen 1,000 homes built.

A special cabinet has been called next Wednesday where senior councillors have been recommended to sell off the former Akzo Nobel site, which it bought for £38m in January 2021.

The southern part of the brownfield site in Wexham Road was purchased from international real estate company Panatonni, which secured planning permission in 2020 to build 1,000 homes to the south of the site and a data centre to the north.

3. Connection from Reading to West End stations marks completion of Elizabeth Line next month

The Elizabeth line is set to offer commuters from Reading a more direct journey to central London starting early next month (6/11).

Monday (24/10) marked the opening of the lines West End location at Bond Street which means the completion of the final station on the line.

With the completion of this station comes the connection of the line from the east to the west next month.

4. Villiers Road, Slough: Two arrested after robbery

Slough Observer:

A 13-year-old has been arrested in connection with a robbery in Slough.

Thames Valley Police said the arrest was made following reports of a robbery in Villiers Road on Monday, October 17.

The 13-year-old, of no fixed abode, has been released under investigation.

A 52-year-old man, also with no fixed abode, has also been arrested in connection with the robbery and released on bail until November 18.

5. Father's despair as liquid Leisure reopens after death

Slough Observer:

The father of a girl who drowned at a water park has spoken of his despair that it has been allowed to partially reopen, likening footage of the tragedy to a “horror movie”.

Kyra Hill, 11, was attending a birthday party at Liquid Leisure near Windsor, Berkshire, on August 6 when she got into trouble in a designated swimming area.

Emergency services were called at 3.55pm and Kyra was found just after 5.10pm and rushed to Wexham Park Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
