Police officers caught a drink-driver in Slough after he kept looking over his shoulder at them.

Harpal Gidda, 50, was spotted in a vehicle in a residential road and later near the vehicle in Lascelles Road with keys in his pocket after 10.30am on November 3.

He was arrested after failing a roadside test and in custody provided a sample that contained 55 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath.

Investigating officer PC Luke Jenkins said: “In the run-up to Christmas, people should be mindful of the potentially fatal consequences of impaired driving – it’s simply not worth the risk.

“There will be an increase in police activity around this time of year to ensure road safety and prosecute impaired drivers.”

Gidda, of Kendal Drive, Slough, was fined £120 and disqualified from driving for a year at Slough Magistrates’ Court on Thursday (November 17).

He pleaded guilty to one count of driving a motor vehicle with an alcohol level above the legal limit.

PC Jenkins said: “I am pleased to see that Harpal Gidda has received a year’s disqualification for this offence, which is time enough to consider his actions.

“Impaired driving is one of the ‘fatal four’ – the four contributory factors that are likely to result in a fatal collision.”
