TRAFFIC chaos has frustrated motorists this week as a double whammy of roadworks have hit the busy Cookham bridge.
Royal Borough Council said it has received “a lot of calls” about traffic piling up on the High Street and Sutton Lane as drivers try to enter Bourne End.
This is because Scottish and Southern Energy has been carrying out traffic light repairs on the Cookham Bridge and Openreach is carrying out roadworks at the junction between the High Street and Sutton Lane. Both started on November 16 and are due to finish today (November 22), according to One.Network.

Massive queues of traffic have been seen in the rural village, with irate drivers blasting their horns or U-turning to try their luck with another route.
One driver said the High Street three-way traffic lights have caused gridlock due to “poor timing and planning management” that’s conflicting with the traffic light repairs at the bridge.
A council spokesperson said: “It’s a company that’s come to the council to carry out works, who we have given a permit for, and there’s a situation of a build-up of traffic.

“The permit team has been informed about the situation because we’ve been receiving lots of calls about it.”
Openreach and Scottish and Southern Energy were contacted for comment.
