ARMED police swooped in on a vehicle outside Windsor Castle when a member of the public feared a man had a weapon inside.

Officers were scrambled and found Michael Duff, of Concorde Way in Slough, inside the car on Thames Street, immediately outside Windsor Castle, around midday on November 1.

The 55 year old was ordered to leave the vehicle and when searched police found a 'large hunting knife' in the car.

Duffy has now been jailed for possession of an offensive weapon, at Slough Magistrates' Court on Monday, November 28.

He pleaded guilty to one count of possession of an offensive weapon, one count of criminal damage and one count of public order section 5.

Duffy, who also flooded a police cell while in custody and racially abused those around him, was jailed for six months.

Investigating officer, Detective Sergeant Anna Davison said: “Armed officers were deployed and ordered the occupant of the car to exit the vehicle. The occupant cooperated, after which the officers searched the vehicle and found a large hunting knife.

“The occupant of the vehicle, Michael Duffy, was arrested at the scene and taken into police custody.

“While in his police custody, Duffy deliberately damaged a police cell by flooding it with water and then used racially offensive language to other people in custody.

“I am delighted that Duffy has been jailed for these offences. Carrying weapons in public poses a significant risk to the community and will not be tolerated. Furthermore, his behaviour in custody was despicable, having racially abused other people in the custody suite.”
