After an incredibly up and down year, we are all looking forward to a more positive 2023.

The Cost of living crisis has brought worry and frustration in one way or another, with all our lives having been affected and disrupted.

But if there’s one good thing this year has done, it has shed light on how strong our community can be when we all come together.

This year, there have been plenty of examples of strong community spirit and lots of feel-good stories have been printed based on kind-hearted individuals who put others above themselves.

With that in mind, the Slough Observer would like to recognise those people who have gone out of their way to support their community and play their part.

We have asked you, our readers, to get in touch and tell us about someone whose contribution has been particularly invaluable to you and your family.

This week, we want to highlight one particular person who has gone above and beyond in the Slough community.

Shin Dhother

Slough Observer:

Shin Dhother, founder of Slough Outreach, has been supporting the homeless and vulnerable communities across Slough, Windsor and Maidenhead since 2017.

The service, which is run by a team of volunteers seven days a week, delivers hot meals and essential food to those in need and has been widely recognised within the town.

Dozens of people flooded our Facebook comments to nominate Shin for his efforts in helping vulnerable people in Slough.

Claudette Fernandes-Holland said: "Shin Dhother for his endless work with Slough Outreach. Giving his own time to help the vulnerable 24/7."#

Andrew Graham Lacey Hewitt echoed this and said: "No other name is as deserving of praise."

Dali Sanghera said: "Slough Outreach and Shin Dhother. For so the selfless volunteers work they do for the homeless and vulnerability in slough to give them food and useful items through out the year."

Khush Dhaliwal said: "Shin Dhother of Slough Outreach. Day in day out supporting the homeless of Slough."

We asked Shin how he felt about receiving all of the lovely nominations.

Shin said: "It's very humbling to be praised by so many, and to know the community appreciates the service of our selfless volunteers who give up their time to make sure the homeless and vulnerable residents are looked after.

"Slough Outreach is a grassroots community initiative providing hot meals and essentials to those struggling in these difficult times. It's a cashless project providing a 7days coordinated outreach programme."
