Maidenhead car park will remain closed for "foreseeable future"

Cllr Phil Haseler (Con: Cox Green), lead member for parking, said the “ageing” Broadway car park in Broadway will stay closed for health and safety reasons while contractors carry out assessments for further works to be identified.

The Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead announced its closure at short notice as urgent repair work needed to be carried out after what appeared to be debris that has fallen off the car park structure.

Cllr Haseler said: “Nicholsons is an ageing car park, reaching the end of its serviceable life, and is due to be demolished to facilitate a wider regeneration scheme for Maidenhead town centre, that includes parking provision.

“At the weekend, it was necessary to close the car park at short notice in the interests of health and safety, after our car park contractor identified an area of concrete overhead that required swift assessment and remedial action.

“On a sensible, precautionary basis, the car park will remain closed for the foreseeable future while a further technical condition assessment is carried out across the car park and options for any further works required are identified and considered.

“We apologise again for the inconvenience. There is, however, sufficient capacity at Hines Meadow and other car parks to accommodate the usual number of users for both short and long stay parking at Nicholsons. Previously, the council closed level five and above in the Broadway car park following “dangerous and deplorable” anti-social behaviour.
