A Berkshire council has been forced to pay £1,075 of compensation after a local schoolgirl was left without schooling for several months.

Following a complaint by the parent, the local government ombudsman found the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead at fault for failing to make suitable educational provisions in late 2019 and early 2020.

Royal Borough council has also been found at fault for failing to arrange and fund a speech and language assessment for the girl, which they themselves agreed was necessary.

The speech and language assessment was necessary to help inform the provision in W’s Education Health and Care Plan.

The Local Government Ombudsman said: “The Council will reimburse the cost of the assessment, apologise for the failure to make provision available and make a total payment to Ms Y of £1,075.

A spokesperson for the council said: “The council has accepted the findings and recommendations of the Ombudsman. We’ve written to apologise, reimbursed the cost of the assessment and paid the compensation.”
