MILLIONS of pounds have been given to Slough Borough Council to revitalise a key route.

The council won its £9.2m bid to revamp the Farnham Road (A355) corridor by improving walking and cycling routes and bus priority through signal upgrades and the enforcement of parking restrictions.

The announcement came from round two of the government’s £4.8bn Levelling Up Fund, which gives local authorities across the country money to improve their local economies and infrastructure.

The Department for Levelling Up, Housing, and Communities have funded 216 projects so far, with more to come.

The government website states: “The [Farnham Road] corridor plays an important economic and transport function for the Britwell and Northborough and Farnham wards, which experience unacceptable levels of deprivation and are disconnected from Slough’s buoyant £8 billion economy.

“Improving the balance between pedestrians, cyclists and motor vehicles will enable residents to make more sustainable and affordable travel choices and create a distinct welcoming place for all.”

When approached for comment, a Slough Borough Council spokesperson said: “We are pleased to have secured funding for the Farnham Road project and will review the delivery plan with our commissioners.”

No projects were announced for the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead.
