A family skating disco and a foam party were just a number of things held to celebrate Slough Ice Arena's five years since refurbishment.

To mark the milestone, Ice Arena held a number of events to raise money for Dementia UK.

On April 14, the fifth birthday was celebrated with public ice skating sessions, a family disco skating, a foam party on ice and indoor climbing sessions.

All events took place at reduced prices to raise money for the charity.

Children also had the chance to meet popular characters Spiderman and Poppy the Troll.

In total £774 has been raised from the events.

The arena - which is managed by Everyone Active in partnership with Slough Borough Council - is used to train contestants for Dancing on Ice, as well as being home to the Jets and the Bees ice hockey teams.

Originally built in 1986, the arena closed in 2016 for a major refurbishment and the brand new £7.7m centre opened in April 2018.

Luke Routhorn, contract manager at Everyone Active, said: “We’re so pleased that so many people came along to support such a great cause.

“It’s been a fantastic five years for Slough Ice Arena. It’s a first-class venue with lots of activities on offer. We also play host to several ice hockey teams and filming for Dancing on Ice - helping to raise the profile of the rink and the town.”
