Staff at a pub have been 'shouted at' by angry members of the public after a tree toppled onto a road.

The Old Five Bells, situated on Church Street in Burnham was aided by fire crews on Wednesday, April 12 after a large tree collapsed.

Taking to Facebook the pub said: "We’ve had a lot of people calling the pub or coming in and shouting at us that a tree from our garden is blocking Summers Road.

"We are working as quickly as we can to get this removed."

At 2:04pm Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service were notified of the 'dangerous structure' on Summers Road.

Fire crews from Maidenhead were sent to the scene to assist with the removal of the tree.

The Old Five Bells said once there, the fire crews checked to see if the lamp post positioned next to the fallen tree was not live.

A Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "Upon arrival, the crew discovered a tree had fallen on the road.

"Firefighters secured the scene and used an electric saw to remove loose branches.

"The crew was on the scene for approximately 24 minutes."

A cordon was put in place while branches and the tree were removed.

A spokesperson for The Old Five Bells, said: “We can confirm that a tree from our garden fell down last Wednesday 12 April, blocking part of the adjoining road.

"We worked with the local fire department and a tree surgeon to resolve this in a timely manner and the tree was cleared up and removed by Thursday 13 April.

"We’d like to thank the teams for their prompt resolution of the situation.”
