Locals have become increasingly worried about the pub and entertainment landscape in Slough as establishments have been seen closing their doors across the borough.

Most recently The Three Tuns, a much-loved pub on the Bath Road, has announced it will be closing its doors for the last time later this month.

In 2021 another popular pub, The Rising Sun, also closed its doors with the community expressing their devastation.

Residents are now calling for change and a halt to further property development before the high street and facilities are improved.

The Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) is currently running a campaign to save pubs from closure.

In speaking with CAMRA the National Chairman Nik Antona said: “CAMRA is always concerned when pubs such as The Three Tuns could be lost to the communities they serve, and it is worrying to see that Slough is becoming barren of establishments for real ale, cider and perry.

"Pubs are in freefall and need our support now more than ever."

“This is make-or-break time for the licenced trade."

Nik described the pandemic as a time of "uncertainty and financial insecurity".

He added that the industry is still reeling from its "economic aftereffects".

"Pubs and the breweries who serve them are now being hit by the perfect storm of rising costs of goods and employing staff, government help with energy bills being cut, and customers continuing to tighten their belts due to the cost-of-living crisis," he added.

“Business rate relief schemes currently in place in England are due to end in 2024, so the Government needs to act soon.

"Pubs pay a grossly unfair portion of the total business rates bill, and proper reform is the only permanent fix to the issue.

"This will be a key focus for CAMRA when we launch our campaigning ahead of an expected Autumn fiscal event.”

While campaigning for pubs to be saved from closure, CAMRA also celebrated the best pubs in the area.
