SEVERAL people have been in courts across Berkshire this week for a variety of crimes.

Police have also been busy with incidents across the county.

Here are some examples of sentences or arrests that have occured this week:

A club security doorman who was injured in an unprovoked attack at a nightclub in Reading feels like he has closure after the perpetrator was jailed for over two years.

Jonathan Proctor was assaulted outside The Purple Turtle Bar on January 22 last year and suffered from a dislocated jaw.

The offender, Wayne Swaine, was found guilty of the attack on March 21 this year and was sentenced at Reading Crown Court on Wednesday (July 19) to 26 months imprisonment.

Mr Proctor, who has since left his role as a doorman for the Gun Street bar, said he is happy with the sentence as it shows that violence against door staff will not be tolerated.

“I think that was a fair sentence,” he said.

A train passenger has been jailed after making inappropriate comments towards a female passenger before touching her thighs.

Edgar Junior was jailed for 18 months after a sentencing at Reading Crown Court on Monday (July 17) for two counts of sexual assault, one count of using threatening words and one count of racially aggravated harassment.

The court heard that in March 2022, the 50-year-old had been travelling back from Paddington to Reading when he started lewd comments.

Judge Hassan Khan sentenced Junior, of Patrick Haugh Road, Bicester, with the ‘least possible sentence that the court can impose’.

A landscaper has avoided jail after defrauding customers by selling landscaping services he did not complete or start.

Joe Dallaway, 29, offered landscaping services across Bracknell with his independent business, Legacy Lawn and Landscapes.

However, once customers had paid a deposit to get their gardens done, Dallaway either did not complete the work or did not even start it. He defrauded nine people out of a total of £32,429 across seven households.

He was sentenced at Reading Crown Court on Friday (July 15) to 12 months imprisonment suspended for 18 months.

Between June 5, 2021 and February 14, 2022, Dallaway had been trading as ‘Legacy Lawns’ which was registered at his ex-partners address in Crutchley Wood, Bracknell, despite Dallaway being from Crabtree Road in Camberley.

Eight arrests have been made for drug supply and human trafficking of children offences in the Reading area.

British Transport Police (BTP) County Lines Task Force have led a joint operation on Tuesday (July 18).

Officers from BTP, Thames Valley Police and the Met executed several arrest warrants at multiple addresses in the Reading and additional warrants at an address in Milton Keynes and in Camberley, Surrey.

Eight arrests were made and officers also made several seizures of drugs including a substantial quantity of Class A and Class B drugs, cash and also the successful recovery of phones linked to county lines drug supply.

These warrants are part of an extensive investigation that started after three teenagers were located at London Paddington in February of this year, and concerns were raised that they were being exploited by a county lines drug network.
