Many residents are set to see rising travel costs as day travelcards are set to be phased out, affecting those travelling into London.

The paper tickets offer unlimited travel on all London Transport services, including Tube, DLR, buses, trams and the London Overground.

They will soon no longer be sold or accepted on Transport for London (TfL) services.

Local Preetika Verma has slammed the idea of phasing the tickets out "at a time when we need to encourage more people to use the train".

"Driving into London is unaffordable because of ULEZ, congestion charges and parking costs, but train travel is also expensive," Preetika added.

Meanwhile, Nausicaa De Angeli asked: "Who is going to travel there for a day trip now if it's extortionate?"

"It’s not just people going on day trips this affects, it’s people going to work too," added Ed Marsh.

"Plenty only go in a few days a week and thus it isn’t worth buying a season ticket.

"Scrapping them is a ridiculous decision, especially in the current environment."

Currently a ticket from Slough train station to London Zones one to three costs approximately £17.60, with additional costs applying for further travel if deviating from the return ticket.

While an all day travelcard for the same journey brings the cost down to around £15.20.

Travel times including on and off-peak times can affect pricing.

Slough MP Tan Dhesi said: "For many of my Slough constituents, TfL day travelcards provide significant savings for those travelling to and from London.

"I did raise this with the Mayor of London during my recent meeting with him.

"However, as he explained to me, due to top down Conservative Government budget cuts imposed upon TfL, my constituents are paying the price, as vital transport links to the capital become much more expensive during a cost-of-living crisis."
