Many parks across Slough are found to have broken equipment, with some being entirely closed off.

It comes as parents have said they would like to see the council spend more money on children's play areas.

It has been reported that Granville Park, Upton Court Part and Salt Hill Park are amongst the parks most in need of money invested in new equipment.

Kim Anne Tondeur told the Observer: "We're lucky for the green space but all play areas in slough are so run down with many things out of use.

"Broken swings, climbing frames etc - which is a real shame."

Upon investigating the claims, it was found that an entire play area was closed off at Salt Hill Park, with metal fencing aimed at keeping people out.

Slough Observer:

However, mother and local resident Clara Font Cardiel, 43, said this hasn't stopped children.

"The big kids still go in there, they open the fences and go in there every day.

"It's a hazard, the fences are more dangerous than the playground itself.

"It's also the worry of not knowing why they [the fences] are there. If the playground is really not safe - the kids are still playing there."

Slough Observer:

Clara wishes a sign would be put up to inform the public why the area is closed.

"It's now been two years [since the park closed] - it's a long time."

A large climbing structure in Upton Court Park was also found to be in disrepair, with a cordon loosely placed around the play area.

Slough Observer:

Meanwhile, a set of swings were found to be missing at Grenville Park.

The Observer approached Slough Borough Council about the closed and broken playgrounds.

A Slough Borough Council spokesperson said: “Parks are inspected every week with ad hoc inspections by staff working nearby, reporting if they think something needs to be checked.

"We are currently waiting for quotes for the repair of play equipment across Slough and hope to have these back soon to be assessed for viability.

"If broken equipment is found that is a safety risk, it will be taken out of action or removed.

"At present, we are unable to invest in new equipment but are striving to keep existing equipment in as good condition as possible and safe for continued use.

"In the last couple of years, we have invested in new equipment and refurbished play areas - including Monksfield Recreation Ground, Petersfield Avenue and James Meadow."

Slough Borough Council have said they will be putting new signs up around cordoned-off playgrounds to tell people not to use it in the meantime.
