Hundreds of shoppers were asked to leave a Tesco superstore as they experienced the latest in a series of devastating power cuts.

The incident was alerted to the electricity board on Wednesday, August 23 when the unplanned shortage took place.

This is the second power cut that has hit the Taplow superstore in the past two weeks.

A spokesperson from Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks said: “Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN) was alerted to a power cut in the Taplow area at 14:46 on Wednesday 23 August.

“Engineers immediately attended to the cable fault and had restored all 600 affected customers by 18:03 that same day.

“SSEN would like to apologise for any inconvenience this unplanned electricity interruption caused and thanks those living and working locally for their patience while engineers worked to safely restore power supplies.”

The first power cut, which occurred on August 11, devastated customers when they discovered that hundreds of items of goods “expired” overnight.

This was due to the power cut causing a “fridge and freezer” breakdown in the store. Due to food regulations, the shop was forced to discard hundreds of items of food and drink.

During this second power cut yesterday (23/8), which involved a cable fault, thankfully no stock was lost or had to be discarded.

A Tesco Spokesperson said: “Our Taplow Superstore is open as normal after brief power cuts yesterday in the local area.”
