SCHOOLS across Slough, Windsor and Maidenhead have been celebrating GCSE success after results day on Thursday, August 24.

GCSE results have returned to ‘normal’ after the pandemic, the Department for Education has confirmed.

The proportion of entries achieving top grades (grade 7 and above) and standard passes (grade 4) are consistent with 2019, as grading moves back to normal.

Grades 9, 8 and 7 are equivalent to the old Grades A* and A.

Grades 6, 5 and 4 are equivalent to the old Grades B and C. Grade 4 is a pass.

Speaking on Thursday, headteacher at St Joseph's Catholic High School, Ciran Stapleton said: "Seeing our students celebrating this morning was an incredible experience for all of us and it’s hard to say whose smiles are bigger – students or staff!"

Herschel Grammar School celebrated a 100% pass rate in maths and 99% pass rate in English.

Herschel Grammar School, Jo Rockall said: "We are celebrating excellent GCSE results this Summer which have increased on the 2019 benchmark that the government are using.

"Congratulations to all our students who have risen to the challenges of the few years. Their resilience and determination to succeed is to be hugely commended."

At Westgate School in Slough, 76% of students passed English and 76% passed maths.

20% of grades were top grade 9 at St Bernard's School and the average grade pupils achieved was 7.23.

At Langley Grammar School, 30.1% of results were grade 9.

John Constable, headteacher at Langley Grammar School, said: "We are very proud of our Year 11 students for achieving such excellent grades.

"This year group had so much disruption to their important foundation years in secondary school and they have shown great determination to succeed.

"Congratulations to them, and to our dedicated staff for supporting them. We look forward to seeing the majority of the students returning to our Sixth Form, where these grades will give them a really solid foundation for the next stage in their education."

At Baylis Court School, 85% of students achieved grades 9-5 in English. 

81% of students passed maths.

Slough Council has praised students for their "commitment to learning and working hard".

Lead member for education, children’s services, lifelong skills and governance, Councillor Paul Kelly, said: "I would like to congratulate all of our GCSE students who are picking up their results today, on behalf of everyone at the council.

"We wish all of our students the very best for the next stage of their lives, whatever path they have chosen to take."
