Royal Borough residents are urged to check their voter registration details are up to date.

The council is currently undertaking its annual canvass of households in the borough to confirm the electoral register is accurate and up-to-date.

An initial round of letters was sent out on September 8, with additional letters and emails expected following until early November.

The electoral register exists as a list of everyone who is registered to vote.

Electoral registration officer at the Royal Borough Stephen Evans said: “It’s important that residents keep an eye out for messages from the Royal Borough so we can make sure we have the right details on the electoral register for every residential address in the area.

“Make sure you’re able to have your say at elections, simply by following the instructions on the emails or letters you get from us.”

He added that the council is encouraging people to update their details online, as this is the quickest and easiest way to do so.

Head of support and improvement at the Electoral Commission Melanie Davidson added: “It’s really important that everyone who is eligible to vote is able to do so.

“We urge people to check for updates from their local council on this year’s canvass.”

Anyone who is not currently registered to vote can do so online here.
