Wilko has announced that it will be closing all stores by early October.

The high-street giant has been fighting to stay afloat for the last two months, with the chief executive of Wilko announcing on Thursday, August 10 that the retailed had "no choice" but to enter into administration after leaving "no stone unturned" in efforts to revive the business.

After news that HMV's Doug Putman may have stepped in to save Wilko, the chain revealed a full list of store closures on September 12.

In the list, Slough's Wilko store situated on the High Street has been marked for closure on Thursday, September 21 - with employees asked to stay on until Friday.

The neighbouring store on Maidenhead High Street will be closing even earlier, with the last day of trade said to be Sunday, September 17 and for employees Tuesday, September 19.

The appointed administrator PWC said: "Since their appointment on 10 August, the joint administrators have explored all potential opportunities to save the business.

"They have worked closely with Wilko, its employees and suppliers, to fully understand the structure, implications and viability of a number of offers received for all or parts of the Group.

"However, despite extensive efforts, it has become clear that no significant part of the Wilko operations can be rescued as a going concern."

PWC has informed all staff of the commencement of store closures - with all Wilko's anticipated to be closed by early October.

The move will see an estimated 9,100 employees being left redundant among the 124 stores.

Zelf Hussain, joint administrator, said: “Despite the significant and intensive efforts of both ourselves and Putman Investments - the remaining party interested in buying a significant part of the business as a going concern - a transaction could not be progressed due to the inability to reduce central infrastructure costs quickly enough to make a deal commercially viable.

“The dedication shown by all team members during this period has been hugely humbling and we are grateful for the patience and understanding they have shown.

"As with those who have already been given notice of redundancy, we will guide and support those team members impacted over the coming weeks through the redundancy claims process.

"We also continue to collaborate closely with relevant agencies and engage with any potential employers to help facilitate a quick return into new employment for those impacted.

“We continue to work with potential buyers for different parts of the business and are confident of completing transactions in the coming days.”

In the most recent news about Wilko, it is believed Poundland will be taking over the Maidenhead High Street unit following its closure.

The Range is also considered to be taking over the Wilko brand in what will become an online-only store.
