A MAN was convicted of possessing sexual photos of young children after he was caught uploading the images to Twitter.

Ismaeel Ahmed, 22, was charged with two counts of making indecent photographs/pseudo-photographs of children between September 12, 2019 and January 20, 2021, when he was aged 19.

Police were alerted to his offending after he was caught sharing the photographs on Twitter, a social networking platform since renamed ‘X’.

His address in Spackmans Way, Slough was searched by officers and an iPhone and several other devices were seized.

Ahmed pleaded guilty to the two counts and was sentenced at Reading Crown Court on Monday (September 18) to 10 months in jail, suspended for 24 months.

The court heard that on the iPhone, 28 Category A images were found along with five Category B images and five Category B videos.

Children in the images were as young as four and five.

Police were unable to search the other devices seized from Ahmed’s address as he refused to provide a pin/password so it is unknown if further images were in his possession.

Three character references were provided for Ahmed prior to his sentencing stating he is of ‘good morals’ and is ‘kind-hearted’.

The court heard he has no previous convictions and has not reoffended in the two years since the offences.

However, Judge Heather Norton disagreed with the statements about Ahmed and stated his only mitigating factors were his previous good character, lack of reoffending and his young age and immaturity.

She said: “Despite what your references say, you are not someone of a strong moral compass, you are not someone who is a responsible individual, you are not somebody who wants to help society.

“You are not somebody who is family-orientated, you are not somebody who is genuinely kind-hearted, you are not somebody who has nothing but good morals, as these various references say.

“You are somebody who participated in a vile trade which involves real children, young children aged four and five, being sexually abused with penetrative activity because you have a sexual interest in it – that is who you are.”

As well as the suspended sentence, Ahmed must complete a sexual offending programme, complete 35 rehabilitation activity days, complete 200 hours of unpaid work and pay £425 in court costs.

He has been made subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order for 10 years.

Judge Norton told Ahmed if he provides the pin and passwords to his other devices for police to search and they are clear, he can have them back.

If not, they will be destroyed.
