A man who caught with heroin hidden in his trouser waistband has denied being a drug dealer.

Steven Plummer, 47, from Maidenhead, is on trial at Reading Crown Court charged with possessing Class A drugs with intent to supply.

He is facing a second charge of possessing criminal property in the form of £330 in cash.

Plummer was stopped by police in his vehicle on January 27, 2020, a few months before the coronavirus pandemic began.

The Maidenhead man was caught with four wraps of heroin and a phone which drug experts state contained ‘drug-dealing’ content on it.

However, Plummer, of Abercrombie Road, Maidenhead, denies the offences and states the drugs were for his own personal use.

Plummer states he bought the phone that day and said the messages were from the previous user.

Giving evidence on Wednesday, September 20, a police officer said he couldn’t rule this out as a possibility.

The trial continues.
