Dozens queued up for a first look inside a brand-new supermarket on the Farnham Road.

On Thursday morning (October 12) the highly anticipated Aldi store opened its doors to the first customers at 8am.

Linda Riddell, 65, from Wexham, was the first in line to step foot in the new store.

She had been queuing since 7am and said she had come down to "have a look".

"I'll have a look at their special offers and if I like it maybe I won't go to Tesco's anymore."

She added that she was also intrigued by the free goodie bag of fruit and vegetables handed out to the first 30 customers.

Linda is new to the Aldi brand, with the nearest one to the area being in High Wycombe or Windsor.

Second in the queue was Linda Young, 69, from Farnham Royal who was keen to see what the shop would be like.

She said that she often shops with M&S and Tesco and opts for branded products which she said Aldi's absence of may put her off.

The two Linda's have become friends from their time in the queue and have exchanged contact numbers.

David Shaw, 48, from Langley had stopped by to get his lunch for work and to look around.

He said he wasn't surprised at the turnout to the opening and would consider becoming a regular if the parking is "alright".

Gulab Singh, 25, from Farnham Royal and Harpreet Mak, 32 had come to the opening to see the shop and said Aldi is "cheaper than other stores" which appeals to them.

At 8am Store Manager Sean Muir was joined by Team GB gold and bronze medallist Moe Sbihi and local school children to celebrate the store opening by cutting the all-important ribbon.

Customers applauded and were quick to enter the shop, which has been set up with wide aisles to allow for better accessibility.

Members of the public were quick to comment on the shop being "spacious".

The special buys aisle went down a hit with the first few customers coming out with swimming pools, drills and cat food.

Other items on offer included soft toys, Halloween costumes and a neck massager.

Customers of the shop will be greeted by a new car park layout with one-way access, with free parking for up to three hours.

Trollies are docked outside the shop and a one-way entry and exit system helps with the flow of customers.

Aldi on the Farnham Road is open Monday to Saturday 8am to 10pm and Sunday 10am to 4pm.
