Aldi's famous special buy aisles and low prices have officially come to Slough, with dozens having queued to be one of the first into the new supermarket.

The Observer headed down early on Thursday morning (October 12) to get a preview of the shop and what was on offer to customers.

Situated on the Farnham Road, the store features wide aisles and fridges and freezers fitted with doors, which the store claims are more environmentally friendly.

A sign on the fridge doors said: "Our chiller doors save enough energy per year to make 4.6 million cups of tea."

The middle aisle of the supermarket boasts special buys from seasonal Halloween goods to massagers, plush toys, swimming pools, air fryers and drills.

On arriving at the shop customers can pick up a trolley or basket before walking through the fruit and vegetable aisles, moving on to chilled goods including meats and dairy items.

The centre of the shop is where canned and tinned goods can be found as well as the special buy section.

Freezers are at the back of the shop, alongside alcohol and toiletry items.

Customers can then choose between self-checkout and a regular manned checkout.

The store was opened to the public at 8am on Thursday, October 12.

Team GB rower Moe Sbihi cut the red ribbon alongside pupils from The Godolphin Junior Academy.

The Farnham Road store is the first Aldi to open in Slough and will be run by Store Manager Sean Muir, along with a team of 40 colleagues from the local community.

The first 30 customers were given a complimentary bag of fresh fruit and vegetables from Aldi’s famous Super Six range.

Store Manager Sean Muir said: “It’s been a wonderful morning here at the opening of Aldi Slough.

"It was lovely to welcome our new customers into store, and I look forward to meeting more of the community in the coming weeks.

"I’m also thrilled that we’ve been able to support The Godolphin Junior Academy through our partnership with Team GB."
