A nursery that has battled with a spate of poor Ofsted reports is celebrating the success of an overwhelmingly positive inspection report and new rating.

William Street Nursery, Windsor was inspected by Ofsted on September 6.

It came after the nursery was rated Inadequate in September 2022 and Requires Improvement following an inspection on February 24, 2023.

However, after actioning Ofsted's concern, the nursery has achieved a Good rating.

In the report, the nursery is praised for its supportive staff and well-behaved children.

The report reads: "Staff support children to manage their behaviour effectively.

"Children behave well and demonstrate a good attitude to learning."

Creative ways to engage distracted toddlers are effective, with a notable use of singing songs in breaks from Storytime.

"This enables children to maintain their focus for longer periods of time so that they are consistently engaged in meaningful learning."

In the February inspection, the school was seen as having transitional periods when children were not engaged in meaningful learning - which has now been addressed.

Golden rules are understood and discussed by children, with understanding encouraged through acting out the rules.

Oftsed added: "This enables children to understand what is expected of them when they are at nursery and enables staff to promote positive behaviour.

"Staff plan engaging activities for children based on what they know about them."

Children at the nursery are given opportunities to "express themselves creatively" and "develop their physical skills".

Since the pandemic, children require extra support with their communication and language skills, which is "implemented well" by the staff.

The report adds that staff have a "good knowledge" of the children and are able to identify when a child needs additional support.

Babies "settle in well and confidently seek out adults to engage with", while staff "support children to identify and manage their feelings".

Ofsted added: "The manager has carefully considered ways to involve parents in their children's learning at home."

Safeguarding is said to be "effective" at the nursery - a main flaw outlined in the 2022 report.

In the most recent report Ofsted only highlighted one area for improvement.

They have advised the nursery to: "strengthen processes for sharing information about the daily curriculum implementation with parents to enable them to be more fully informed about what their children do each day."

Reflecting on the report Manager of William Street Nursery Kerri Woods, said “We were delighted with the outcome, and I was incredibly proud of the team and the children on the day”.
