Local residents of Windsor have been debating why the town has been so busy recently, many expressing that they have never seen so many people in the car parks and high street.

One such resident recently took to social media to question why this has been the case for the last week.

Mr David Bulbeck wrote on a recent Facebook post and asked the public “Is it just me or has the town been rammed for the past few days?

“It has felt busier than summer and I am pretty sure I've never seen so many vehicles in the coach park.”

Many users suggested that the reason for Windsor being so busy must be due to shoppers hitting the new year’s sales.

One wrote “People spending money which keeps business open has got to be a good thing for Windsor. I love seeing the high street busy after such difficult times.

In agreement with the previous comment, another person said “People will be taking trips out from home and abroad and people want to break away from the boredom of Christmas and new years.

“This brings money into Windsor!”

Other suggested that it was probably due to the influx of tourists coming to see the annual parade on New Year’s Day.

One commenter said “There’s a marching band parade on New Year's Day, London, I think. So, town has been full of thousands of American students.”

In response to the previous comment, another user said “You are correct, marching bands from around 20 US universities come over and do their thing. There are about 80 to 100 kids per marching band.

“I worked for the company that used to import all the instruments and deliver them to little Britney and Chuck Jnr at their Hotels.”

Many others expressed that the numbers were due to tourists visiting the town and nothing to do with local residents.

One person said “More tourists but think less and less residents. Will be interesting when the centre manager has this footfall data.

“Extortionate hikes in parking costs proposed by this Council, nearly 3x inflation will cause huge significant damage to local economy.”

Similar to the previous commenter’s insights, a further user added “If tourists then not necessarily. Tourists will not bring food shops to the town.

“The council will look at this and decide to raise the parking costs to target the tourists but it will hurt local residents.”
