A supermarket giant is bringing its low costs to Maidenhead for the first time.

Asda will be opening within the Texaco garage on Bridge Road from next month.

It comes after the Co-Op agreed to sell its non-core petrol forecourt business to Asda in 2022.

On January 29 the Co-Op will close its doors at 6pm before handing the premises over to Asda. During the hand over the petrol station will be closed for two days.

A sign outside the shop reads: "Your new Asda store opens on February 1 at 6am."

Customers have already noticed store shelves looking empty.

The hand over to Asda will see Co-op employees retained and transferred over to Asda under TUPE regulations.

Andy Perry VP of Convenience at Asda said: “We’re incredibly excited to be bringing our Asda value and quality to this community with the conversion of the existing Co-op site on Bridge Road.

"The continued rollout of Asda Express stores marks an incredibly exciting moment for our business and accelerates our presence in the fast-growing convenience market.”

Once open, the Asda store will stock up to 3,000 branded and own-label products.
