A bank has announced it will be closing later this year.

Barclays on Maidenhead High Street will be closing in April after visits to the branch fell.

A Barclays spokesperson said: “As visits to branches continue to fall, with the majority of people preferring to bank online, we need to adapt to provide the best service for all our customers.

"This is reflected at Maidenhead branch where we are delivering new ways to support our customers and the community with options for those who need in-person services.”

The bank branch, located at 92 High Street Maidenhead will close on Friday, April 26.

Barclays state they are currently exploring ways to continue serving the community.

The spokesperson added: “In Maidenhead, we plan to open a Barclays Local – a cashless banking site where customers can meet a colleague face-to-face for banking support, as they would in a branch and without the need to travel.

"We are currently working with the local community to identify a suitable location and will announce details once confirmed.”

Following the closure, Barclays customers can do everyday banking transactions at any Post Office with the closest located at WHSmith, 16-22 Nicholsons Walk, Maidenhead.

The closest Barclays branch will be at Queensmere Shopping Centre in Slough and on High Wycombe High Street.
