Members of the community are invited to swap clothes in a sustainable fashion event aimed at reducing landfill waste.

Slough BID has teamed up with Slough Anti-Litter Society to bring the event to Queensmere Shopping Centre.

In the UK 350,000 tonnes of garments, that’s around £140 million worth of used but still wearable clothes, go to landfill every year.

During the event, people are encouraged to swap their gently used garments for something new.

Tirza Meinema, Chair of Slough Anti-Litter Society, said: “I am excited to host the event to promote recycling and reduce textile waste.

"It's also a great opportunity to find unique and gently used clothing items at a fraction of the price.”

Rifat Iqbal-Khan, Slough BID Marketing and Events, added: “By embracing clothes swaps, we not only refresh our wardrobes but also renew our commitment to sustainability, one outfit at a time."

The event will take place on Saturday, March 9 and will run from 1pm, when people can exchange up to 10 garments for tokens.

Refreshments will be served and workshops and panels will take place before attendees choose their new pre-loved items at 2:30pm.

Tickets to the event can be bought for £5 via sloughantilitter.org.uk/swap. The cost covers participation, a free hot drink and cake.

All proceeds go to the charity Target Ovarian Cancer.
