WINDSOR'S mayor has been rubbing shoulders with the nation's former prime minister at a classical music concert.

Councillor Neil Knowles went to watch Windsor and Maidenhead Symphony Orchestra at St Mary's Church in Maidenhead last week.

And he wasn't the only politician in attendance.

Cllr Knowles bumped into Theresa May, who served as prime minister from 2016 until 2019. Mrs May announced last week she would be standing down at the next general election after 27 years as Maidenhead MP.

Taking to social media to praise the musicians and to share a photograph of himself alongside the former PM, Cllr Knowles described the evening as "wonderful", writing to Twitter: "Elgar, Harp concerto and both Theresas in my life."

The Windsor & Maidenhead Symphony Orchestra was founded in 1972 as a group of amateur musicians who played for local productions of light opera and musicals.

The orchestra has grown in size and status and expanded its repertoire to cover a broad range of great masterpieces.
