A popular budget supermarket is looking to extend its opening hours.

Lidl on Stafferton Way in Maidenhead first opened in the town in 2014 and has since kept the same routine hours of 8am to 9pm Monday to Saturday and 10am to 4pm on Sunday.

On April 3 the supermarket applied to the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead to extend its hours.

Currently, the trading license reads: "The premises shall not be open to visiting members of the public outside the hours of 8am and 9pm."

Lidl hopes to open its store one hour earlier and close one hour later. This would mean the new hours of operation would be 7am to 10pm.

In their request to the council, Carney Sweeney on behalf of Lidl, state that noise disturbance in the area would be minimal due to a car park and landscaping shielding the nearby apartments.

"Lidl are seeking this small extension to their trading hours in order to allow them to compete more effectively with other retailers in the town," the application states.

They cited Sainsbury's at Providence Place operating from 7am to 11pm and Tesco on the Bath Road operating from 6am to 10pm.

The local authority has yet to make a decision on the application.
