Despite the wet weather the South East of England has had in recent weeks, a potential heatwave could hit the region this month.
The first week of June saw parts of the UK hit temperatures close to 24°C.
This followed a very warm spring, which was one of the wettest.
The following week is expected to remain overcast with some sunny spells, but there is hope that a heatwave could arrive by the end of the month/start of July.
A senior meteorologist at the British Weather Services, Jim Dale, said the UK was heading "in the right direction" for a heatwave with temperatures 'well into the 30s'.
Its long-range forecast for June 19 until the start of July says: "All areas can expect to see some spells of drier, sunnier weather.”
The forecast added: "Temperatures are most likely to be close to normal or slightly above."
