An elderly couple, who were the victims of the latest theft scam, have voiced their concern about further incidents of a similar nature happening across Berkshire.

Slough resident, Patricia Sharp, was shopping at the Sainsbury’s on Uxbridge Road at around 2pm on Wednesday, August 7 when she felt a trolley slam into the rear of her car.

The 77-year-old, who was out shopping alone, said that she was shocked when someone jumped into her vehicle when she went to check if any damage had been caused.

“I am still shaken up,” she said. “I had parked in the car park at Sainsbury’s and I was just about to drive away when I heard the bang and so I quickly jumped out and left the door open.

"Suddenly, a man jumped into my car and drove away. He didn’t even close the drivers side door it happened so fast

“I have now lost everything including my bag, my keys, my phone and all the shopping that was in the car.

“This was obviously a planned theft by the two men because I asked the man who banged into my car if they were together, he said no but after that, he disappeared.

“This is obviously a scam that is happening in carparks by teams of men praying on the elderly.”

According to Patricia, and her husband Colin, the police and management within Sainsbury’s were alerted of this attack directly after.

The victim was told that the CCTV footage did not catch the offenders in the act or did they see the offenders driving away.

Colin Sharp added: “I just want to make sure people know about this scam that is happening in car parks so that they are careful. There is no doubt that it is going on in other places.

“I was shocked that there were no cameras in the area that my wife was parked and that they didn’t catch the car driving out of the car park.”

The car in question is a 21-year-old Honda CR-V.

A Sainsbury's spokesperson said, "We are supporting the police with their investigation."

The supermarket in Slough provided police with CCTV footage from the shop and car park.

A spokesperson from Thames Valley Police commented:  "At around 1.40pm yesterday (7/8), we received a report of a theft of a motor vehicle in a Sainsbury’s car park on Uxbridge Road in Slough.

"The vehicle is a silver Honda CR-V.
