The High Street in Slough remains closed due to the risk of debris falling from an apartment building damaged in a fire earlier this week.
Around midnight on Thursday, a major incident was declared as a blaze broke out in Mosaic Apartments, 26 High Street - with more than 300 residents needing to be evacuated.
More than 50 firefighters tackled the fire for over an hour before bringing it under control shortly after 1am on Thursday.
Emergency services reported no fatalities due to the incident, while residents told The Slough Observer about the 'terrifying' ordeal, with people 'screaming to get out of the building'.
Shocking video footage showed a 5th floor flat engulfed in flames as plumes of smoke surrounded the building.
Now Slough Borough Council has issued an update on the incident, as more than a dozen families remain homeless and the building continues to pose a risk due to falling debris.
In a statement, a spokesperson from the council said: "The High Street, road and pavement, remains closed to maintain safety due to some debris being dislodged by the high winds overnight and this morning (Friday).
"16 households continue to be cared for by Slough Borough Council – including housing, children’s services and adult social care – directly and will continue to be so over the long weekend.
"Other tenants of the block have now made their own arrangements or arrangements are being made by the management agents for the flats.
"Tenants with properties within the affected block but not fire damaged are being escorted into and out of their premises to collect essentials."
The cause of the fire has not been confirmed, according to the council.
The spokesperson said: "There is ongoing fire service and police presence on site, along with the council, working together to ensure the building is safe and to progress the investigation into the cause of the fire."
According to several residents, no fire alarm could be heard during the incident.
One resident said that other residents banging on their doors made them away of the blaze.
