The Thames Valley (East) Masaajid Council Inter-Mosque Football Tournament, hosted at Slough Town Football Club on August 25, gathered over 250 youngsters aged between seven and 16 years from across the region for a day filled with friendly competition, team spirit, and valuable life lessons.
The tournament offered an opportunity for young people to engage in healthy physical activity, learn the importance of teamwork, and develop crucial life skills such as discipline, resilience, and leadership.
The tournament was supported by 11 local mosques who pooled together to organise a highly successful first event, just before schools reopen for the next academic year.
TVMC Chairman, Dr. Arshad Jarral stated “I am proud that TVMC, with support from local mosques, is identifying gaps created by cuts in public services, and seizing the initiative and being creative in supporting young people in the region.
"It is important that we empower young people through sport and other social activities to support their future development”.
The tournament provided a platform for fostering social and emotional well-being, helping younger participants build strong peer relationships, learn to manage emotions in a competitive environment and develop a positive self-image.
Tournament organiser, Haroon Iqbal, stated “We believe that sports have the power to change lives. Our goal was to use this tournament as a means to encourage young people to pursue positive activities, set goals, and stay committed to their personal growth. By giving them the tools and support they need, we aim to help them make choices that lead to a successful and fulfilling life”
