Police have launched a "priority" appeal after a man was injured in an assault with a screwdriver in a public park.

The victim, a man in his forties, was walking through Bloom Park with his daughter around 5.45pm on Thursday, October 3, when he was approached by the suspected offender on a motorbike.

The motorbike was without plates and was being ridden along the path in the park, according to Thames Valley Police.

The offender continued driving towards the victim and his daughter - before slowing down and running over the victim's toes.

The victim approached the man on the motorbike and the offender pushed the victim in the chest and the arms.

The offender then tried to leave scene, according to police, but the victim appeared to have tried to stop him.

The victim then pushed the offender down to the ground and put him in a headlock, while the offender started shouting for help.

During the scuffle, the offender reached into his bag and pulled out a screwdriver and tried to stab the victim multiple times in his chest area.

One of the strikes from the screwdriver hit the victim on the head, causing an injury.

The offender then left scene back towards Goodman Park along the canal path.

An abandoned moped was left at the scene along with a bike helmet, both of which are believed to belong to the suspect.

The victim sustained injuries to chest and to his head, requiring hospital treatment. He has now been discharged.
