A one-woman comedy show using rap, drag, and pickled gherkins is set to entertain.
The show, 'Monument,' will feature audience participation and explore themes of hard work and its purpose, with settings in construction sites in Czechoslovakia and the UK, is coming to the Curve, Slough.
At the centre of the story is Bogdan, a character described as a relatable everyman and a hard worker involved in a mysterious construction project.
The narrative follows his journey of navigating the typical migrant path, focusing on earning money while also yearning for real love and connection.
Caught in a routine of work and sleep, Bogdan turns to dating apps and social media to fill the void in his life.
His story is juxtaposed with the true story of the largest monument of Stalin in 1950s Czechoslovakia.
This tragi-comic tale is told through the eyes of a Soviet apparatchik determined to make the monument a success.
The parallel stories of Bogdan and the Soviet apparatchik create a dialogue between two individuals, two societies, and two moments in history.
The audience is encouraged to reflect on the individual and collective power in shaping the world around them.
The show is part of The Curve Venue's Local Artists Programme and is supported by the Curve Venue.
It will take place in The Curve, Slough's largest active performance studio, which offers facilities for a broad range of activities.
