Those receiving the state pension in Slough will be delighted to hear that as of this month, the state pension has risen by up to £470 this year.
That represents an increase of around £1,900 over the course of this parliament.
With its commitment to the triple lock, the Labour government has delivered extra cash for pensioners in Slough and across the UK.
I’m pleased the government's campaign to ensure eligible pensioners are receiving pension credit has succeeded with nearly fifty thousand additional pensioners now benefiting from an average annual payment of £4,300.
This initiative also offers further support, including assistance with housing costs, council tax relief and free television licences.
Alongside this, the government has extended the household support fund until March 2026, providing £742 million to councils to assist those just above the Pension Credit threshold and other vulnerable groups.
Additionally, from October, low-income households will receive a £150 warm home discount, helping to ease financial burdens and ensure a warmer winter.
I am glad this government is taking the necessary steps to protect pensioners, unlike the Conservatives who recently said they would ditch the triple lock and consider means testing the state pension.
So unlike potential cuts with the Tories, Labour is considerably increasing the state pension.
I am delighted this step will put hundreds of pounds back into the pockets of my Slough constituents, many of whom will be greatly reassured by this Government’s commitment to the triple-lock.
