Local MP for Windsor, Jack Rankin, has branded the recent government spending review a “spending spree” that will lead to higher taxes for Windsor residents.

The government’s spending review was finally revealed yesterday, with Chancellor Rachel Reeves outlining Labour’s spending plans for the next five years.

Responding to review, MP Ranking said: “My constituents across the towns and villages of the Windsor constituency are still feeling the pinch of the cost of living.

“This spending spree in the current economic climate will mean once thing for them – higher taxes further down the line, squeezing hard-working families even harder.

“Our economy is left vulnerable by [Rachel Reeves’] ‘spend today, tax tomorrow’ mindset.”

The government’s plans will see overall departmental spending increase by 2.3% annually until 2028-29.

Rankin is an MP for the Conservative Party and also criticised other decisions taken recently by the Labour government such as the controversial Chagos Islands deal and public sector pay rises.

He told The Chronicle that Reeves should be focussing on “fixing the mess she created with her budget last year”.

Rankin added: “As the Chancellor herself says: ‘These are Labour choices’.”
