Maidenhead will be hosting a captivating musical this autumn.

Maidenhead Operatic Society will be presenting Carmen the Musical at Norden Farm from 22nd to 25th October 2025.

This version of Bizet’s classic opera, performed in English, promises an accessible yet audacious reimagining of the beloved masterpiece.

Audiences can expect to hear unforgettable themes such as the famous Toreador’s Song and the Habanera, showcasing the essence of the original while making it enjoyable for both opera enthusiasts and musical theatre fans.

Director Bridget Biggar shares her excitement, saying, "In this exciting reimagining of Carmen, dialogue replaces the opera’s recitative which creates an accessible piece of theatre that can be enjoyed by everyone.

"Yet it loses none of the original opera’s power and emotion.

"We have also been able to draw a surprising amount of humour out of the piece as well."

Carmen the Musical tells the timeless story of the tragic gypsy girl Carmen, who finds herself torn between the affections of soldier Don Jose and toreador Escamillo.

Society Chairman Janet Stone added: "We have thoroughly enjoyed having the opportunity to sing Bizet’s wonderful music as well as offering the opportunity for younger people to join us in the production and to introduce them to this wonderful work."

Performances will take place each evening at 7.30pm.

Tickets are priced at £27, with a special rate of £15 for under 16s.

Tickets can be booked online at Norden Farm.
