A man is preparing to take on a mammoth challenge by walking nearly 500 miles in one month.
Ryan Hilton, founder of the newly formed Million Step Foundation CIC, will set off on May 1 on a 480‑mile trek from Maidenhead to Snowdon.
His goal: complete one million steps in just 30 days, the equivalent of walking 18 marathons in a single month.
He aims to raise £100,000 from the walk.
What makes the feat stand out is that Hilton is not a professional athlete.
In fact, just six months ago, he says he was struggling with even basic physical activity.
Now, he’s gearing up for a month‑long endurance test designed to prove that “ordinary people can achieve extraordinary things”.
Hilton says the challenge is about more than miles.
He explained: “This is about showing that meaningful change is possible.
“It doesn’t matter where you start; you can always change the narrative and the ending.”
The route will take him across England and Wales, passing through towns, villages, and communities before finishing at the base of Snowdon in North Wales.
Along the way, he hopes to meet residents, raise awareness, and inspire others to take small steps toward improving their own health and wellbeing.
The walk will also raise funds for three charities carrying out vital work across the UK:
- Mind
- Alzheimer’s Society
- Alexander Devine Children’s Hospice Service
Hilton’s journey will double as the official launch of the Million Step Foundation CIC, a community‑focused organisation aiming to promote healthier lifestyles and encourage people to become more active.
The foundation plans to support local initiatives, grassroots projects, and campaigns that help people build sustainable habits around movement and wellbeing.
To bring supporters along for the ride, Hilton will document the entire 30‑day challenge through daily video updates and live streams on social media.
Followers will be able to track his progress in real time as he pushes toward the one‑million‑step mark.
He hopes the visibility will not only boost fundraising efforts but also spark conversations about resilience, recovery, and the power of incremental change.
He continued: “I want people to see that you don’t need to be an athlete to take on something big,”
“You just need to start one step at a time.”
